HEY Guys,

Globally on Oct 15 we have launched the Global Handwash day as it was UNIted Nation's first Global Handwashing Day to send message that this simple excercise is one of the most effective ways of preventing diseases responsible for the deaths of 3.5 million children each year.

Here in Malaysia, some organisatioin (Namely Lifebuoy) has making it a one month campaign to give more impact on Hand washing.

so spread the word around on good hygiene and make sure you wash your hands before and after you eat or doing anything. please remember good hand washing with soap will save life.

Today Red FM Breakfast show has made this as their topic for the day.

Here are a few simple steps to mastering the handwashing technique:
1.Pump some soap onto your palm. Make sure the soap at the palm of your hand is at least the size of a RM 0.50 coin.

2.Start scrubbing your hands in a circular motion for 10 seconds until it is foamy or bubbly.

3.Start scrubbing in between each of your fingers. This is an area of your hand which is considered to be the germs’ “hot spots”. This area of you hands tends to be damp and cramped in which is a germs’ perfect hideout.

4.After you finish scrubbing in between each of you fingers on both hands it is time for your finger nails. Scratch the palm of your hands with your nails to scrub each nail.

5.Don’t forget the back of your hands and the wrist. Use the soap to scrub these areas.

6.Rinse your hands with clean water.

7.Dry your hands with a clean tissue or cloth.
Wink

Handwashing Day? Areen, here's a question? Why designate a single day for handwashing when it should be a all year round affair?

Can you imagine if we only washed our hands for only ONE day? hahahahahaha Razz

Hey there...

it was just an official date from UNicef to promote good hygiene. however in Malaysia we are doing it a month (official) but all year for promoting it.

sadly most Malaysian still dunno how to wash hands properly and that is dangerous for all the children as they are easier to be infected with a lot viruses and germs.

we embarking fully to all students in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak where there were cases of HFMD. we should wash hands at all times la.. if we dun introduce this.. when?

it is just a day to officially see if there's a progress for the program. but thank you again to Sarawak (i am proud to sarawakian) for the great support in pledging to the campaign.

Talking about hand washing campaign and good hygene.... one time a cousin of mine who's living in Canada went to a club with her friend. After lotsa drinks, they went to the ladies room together. After doing their 'thing', my cousin did the next obvious thing - wash her hands, but her friend didn't. Curious, my cousin asked her friend, "Aren't you gonna wash your hands?" Her friend looked at her funny and replied, "What for? I didn't pee on my hands." Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

WOW... but Zee that's very typical of certain people... they never see washing hands as an important part of hygiene!

But here's something for everyone to think about if you constantly see yourself using an escalator...

Elevators buttons and escalators handrails are among the germiest public places in the world!

Following an investigation by the New York Daily News and the University of Arizona it was discovered that Escalator Handrails are some of the worst germs carries around. The New York Daily News took swab samples at 49 locations in the mass transit system. The samples were incubated and the microbes then analysed at the department of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology at New York University Medical Centre. The results were startling to say the least; these are some of the results that were found on Escalators, Subways and Platforms.

 Strep B, streptococcus viridians, E. coli, enterococcus found at 125th St. and Broadway subway station, on escalator handrail:

 Staph aureus, E. coli, enterococcus, enterobacter found at Port Authority on Escalator Handrail and staircase handrails.

 Candida, streptococcus viridians, enterobacter found at 149th St. and Grand Concourse station Escalator Handrail: and staircase handrail

 Candida, streptococcus viridians, staph aureus found at Grand Central Terminal, Escalator Handrail and staircase handrail to Metro-North tracks:

: E. coli found on Penn Station Escalator

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The report identified the following germs and bacteria, and this is what they may cause:

 STREP B: Vaginal infections, meningitis in newborns.

 STAPH AUREUS: Toxic shock syndrome, food poisoning, skin and wound infections.

 CANDIDA: Yeast infection, thrush.

 STREPTOCOCCUS VIRIDIANS: Dental caries, but where it lives other nastier germs, like SARS, influenza and cold viruses, can survive.

 E. COLI: Diarrhoea, food poisoning, infect wounds

 ENTEROCOCCUS: Wound, urinary and other infections.

 ENTEROBACTER: Respiratory, urinary tract and other

Infections.

so the next time you go on an escalator... avoid holding on the handrails if you feel that you'll do fine without them... otherwise, wash your hands the second you come off the escalator!

Shocked
