... geez... couldn't afford that in one go over here! Remember going to Lee's restaurant in Ipoh, looked at the menu, did a quick conversion and bought the whole menu, same price as a single dish over here Fed most of the staff at the Excelsior Hotel, Ipoh _________________ Cheers,

you know what dude... I totally understand your sentiment!
When I was in London, I needed to help my buddy change his flight plans, so I stopped by Malaysia Airlines in Cromwell Road but because it was around lunch time, I figured I'd eat first. Entered an Indian Restaurant cuz I was craving for BLR, which they didn't have, so I just ate like Rice, Curry, a piece of fried chicken & a coke... normally the meal here in KL is around 7-9 ringgit. But in London, I paid something like 15 pounds just for my meal... that's 105 ringgit back in 2005.
It was insane... but if you're just converting dollar for dollar, then 15 pounds to 9 ringgit ain't all that far apart... but because of the exchange rate, that was one insane meal!
Infact, that day I even went as far as packing food for my buddy from that restaurant and taking it back to Barking, where I could have bought Pizza's for much less! In total, I spent something like 210 ringgit for food that one day!
In KL, with 210 ringgit, I can treat our entire family of almost 15 people to lunch or dinner!
The following day, my buddy and I drove to "Lidl" (I think that's how it's spelt) hypermarket and decided to cook food at home instead! _________________ I Love MAG...! |

Last Saturday my aunt treated my whole jing-bang family to lunch at a Peranakan Restaurant in One Utama - there were like 22 of us... and the bill came up to M$700+ only. |

is that peranakan restaurant in the new wing? wanna go try there someday... and with what your aunt spent, it comes to almost RM32 per person...
well, technically you've gotta count it dollar for dollar Marty, so what you spent is ok lah...
like for us, sometimes we just like going to TGIF and opting for their 3 course meal for RM33... so you get your appetizer, main course and dessert... and since their portions used to be HUGE... we'd take 1 set and share... hubby takes the main course, I take the appetizer, and we share the dessert... since by then we're already stuffed...
but recently we went and the sizes have shrinked, maybe to cut down on wastage... and we had 1 set each
as for posting Marie here, well, remember you gotta pay for postage and all and it'll come back to the same _________________ Happy, Healthy & Bubbly |

WOW! that's a lot of moolah! But MAG's right, you've gotta take it dollar for dollar... cuz when you convert currencies it just sounds ridiculous!!!!
Thats why when we went up to London, I didn't bother to convert currencies cuz as tourists, we're always gonna be at the losing side when we look at the conversion rate! It sucks to come from a region whose currency is 7 times less... so we just spend based on whims and fancies and not look at how much is going out! That's the only way to enjoy ourselves! Don't you agree??? _________________ I Love MAG...! |

.... if you work on an equality level 1 ringgit = 1 pound that's still a lot of dough in comparison _________________ Cheers,
