..... the rear seat belt usually saves the front seat passenger and driver from injury and not just the rear passenger. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Actually... it's rather weird if you think about it... there's so many motorcyclists on our KL roads that don't even use Helmets... putting aside the millions more in Kampungs that feel that helmets aren't necessary... but this doesn't become an issue... BACK SEAT SEATBELTS do!

WEIRD!

It's all a legal necessity over here, helmets, seatbelts... but the death toll on the roads has dramatically reduced Exclamation Exclamation Idea

I think the issue that people are protesting is not the fact that they do not want to use the rear seatbelt. they're probably protesting it because there's a high penalty for not wearing the rear seatbelt and the authorities are coming down very hard on this, whereas there are other important road safety issues that should be looked into instead.

if we are talking about saving lives... what about all the express bus drivers who dont give 2 hoots about their passengers lives and speed when they are on the highway? not stopping at that, what about the ones who've got tonnes of bad records and yet are allowed to drive busses and cause lots of deaths... like the bus that crashed years ago heading to Bkt Mertajam for St. Anne's feast

now, with safety in mind, what about tackling the issue of Mat Rempits? they are a nuisance and causes public fear. they not only race and put other motorist in danger, but they also threathen other motorist, chase after other motorist if they feel threathened by that particular motorist, attack people out of fun, beat up policemen, and the list goes on. now isnt this a bigger issue?

what about motorcyclists who dont wear helmets? what about motorcyclists who put the lives of their whole family in danger by all of them cramping on 1 motorbike that was designed for 2 people?

what I'm trying to say is that, yes, the rear seatbelt is very very important... but they shouldn't all get so uptight with it... there are more important road issues that need attention. they might be equally as important but nothing is being done to curb the rest

and Marty, the problem here is educating the public. the mentality for almost half the population is still very much far behind and thats why we still see 5 people riding on 1 motorbike, or riding bikes without helmet, or licence or road taxes... its all back to educating the people

totally agree with mag

for me i wear the seat belts/helmets etc i do it on my own accord...not becoz i afraid the police will cekup (caught) me... even when i go to the shop across the taman I will wear the helmet...coz you never know... so education is the key here.

so people... please do buckle up. do excuse needed.

I agree with what MAG said completely... it's true... we come down hard on a new rule and forget about all the old rules... there's no point in making something new mandatory when all the old rules aren't being followed anyway!

at the end of the day its not about the rules... its more of personal safety! there should be a little sense of responsibility in everyone when they're on the road... think of themselves, their families, and even the rest of the people on the road too Wink Razz

Typical malaysian...any new rule, good excuse to bash the govt. They all use back seat belts overseas...plus a whole lot of rulings about child passengers on board and nobody's complaining!!! It's the mentality lah!!! Typical Malaysian mentality!
