Have you ever heard people ask us Sarawakians whether we still live in the jungles, up the tree, hunt for food and wear clothing made out of leaves? If I was asked so, I would say YES! When you as a Sarawakian start to feel low just because you're from Sarawak, these facts would make you change your mind:

1. We have the second largest International airport in Malaysia. While others might not even have any. We have FIVE major airports, while others might not have one.

2. Car fuel is the cheapest here, and not to mention one of the largest petroleum source in malaysia.

3. We have two official cities, Kuching and Miri and soon Sibu, while other states might only have a town.

4. We are still the main reason why tourists come to Malaysia, for our Mulu Caves.

5. Two out of the popular singers based at Taiwan are from Sarawak (Nicholas Teo and Lim Yu Zhong) (not to mention Jason Lo from hitz.fm)

6. The whole of Brunei Island does not envy Malaysia. They envy Sarawak.

7. the most air travelers in Malaysia are from Sarawak. Almost all Sarawakians h ve at least traveled once or twice with airplane, compared to the west
Malaysians

8. We have our own daily newspaper: namely Sarawak Tribune, Borneo Post and International Times.

9. Everytime there's a reality show, our contestants always reach respectful levels .

10. We live in harmony, not just with Malay, Indian and Chinese, but also with Iban , Bidayuh, Melanau, Kelabit etc. (
For those who r ignorant out there, Iban is another race that can b found mostly in swak,ok? many ppl tot swak ppl r generally called as iban. How ignorant!!!)& amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; amp; The term Sarawak truly Asia is more like it.

1 1.First 'Amazing Race' ever was held in Kuching, Sarawak.

12. Most of us Sarawakians speak at least 4 different languages.

13 . MAS CEO from Sarawak, Sin Chiew daily news'(the biggest newspaper company in Malaysia) founder is from Sarawak.

14. Sarawak Laksa!!!! Kolo Mee!!!Bain bian hu...kompia... This is just to name a few examples! We have our own identity, our own popular food where no other places will havethe same taste with ours.

15. We are one of the states with the largest and thickest jungle which produces valuables wood, while some others already become botak.

16. Our air water is among the cleanest in malaysia, and we dun even really need any water purifier.

17. one and only bad thing of Sarawak is Our Chief Minister so called "white hair" is the richest man in Malaysia without much Malaysian knowing, he owns CMS,HSL,PPES ,SEDC,Trienkens(even garbage transport also want)Few HILTONs in da world, his money and properties everywhere in the world including a Bugati Factory (which his son owns two in Kuching) 4.5 million each.

be proud to be sarawakian, for we are in the riches states in MALAYSIA. Smile

wow areen, you from sarawak also ka ? but i agreed with the statement. Most west malaysia people still think we sarawakian still stay on the tree, etc... Cant blame them though, cause state gov always promote sarawak with the native stuff.

additional to areen statement :

1. If we compare 3 star hotel in KL and Sarawak , sure u will be suprise . You cant get 4 star facilities in 3 star hotel in KL. But you can get 4 star facilities in 3 star hotel in sarawak.

2. Sarawakian are more generous, friendly , warm and humble.

3. more to think off .......................

Hi Areen, what a way to promote Sarawak. Way to go girl! It's true many west malaysians are ignorant about Sarawak. Even college people don't know which is Sabah and which is Sarawak. My ex-housemate even asked me if it's true we used sampan as mode of transportation? sheeesh.....

Zul... u really know how to spoil the fun dun you?? anyway... nevermind that... a fren of mine went to Ireland in July and stepped into a bar and there's this Irish came up to him and asked... where you're from?

My fren replied Malaysia... the Irish guy was a little blur but in the end he answered... ohh rainforest festival Sarawak...

My fren in the end became blur too coz he himself does not know about the rainforest until he txt me and asked all about it...

I am proud to be sarawakian.. hehehe... huge impact man... btw... Malaysia is a beautiful country if only ppl dun be soo ignorant about it... i have been to places most LOCALS doesn't know exist.. and i am still exploring for more.. there are a lot of beautiful places and insight if you really want to see it..

whenever i am overseas.. i am proud to be Malaysian and to talk wonders of Malaysia anytime anyday... hence that should b the way..

i better stop otherwise this would not end... Cool

Just say Yes Pam... we do use sampan in remote areas..... but for city centres.. generally it is only use as tourism purposes.

again.. thanks, i am not really promoting Sarawak in a way.. to me it is always seeing is believing.. you gotta be there to know the place and experience it.

it is place that ppl can fall in love so easily...

But Areen, my ex-housemate was asking whether i used the sampan to travel from home Shocked So, i told her yes, and in some parts where the water was shallow, i even had to get down and push the sampan. She looked at me with wide open eyes and believed every single word. Rolling Eyes

Hey Pam.. well at least that one is nothing la.. mine even worse.. when i was in Uni, a coursemate asked me the most stupidest question ever... he asked.. is your currency same like ours? Evil or Very Mad and do you still stay in the jungle.. (typical question which i am not really bothered).

So when asked stupid question.. got stupid answer la. i replied... well its depend from which planet you are from then. the currency differs you see..

and yet he BELIEVED IT. wat a complete moron.. hehe..

I NEVER had dat problem!!! Always blended in well with everybody...and when they got to know I'm from Sarawak, they would be so surprised!!! "Hah!...How come u're not like 'them'???" Well, don't complain!!! There are TWO sides to the coin, two sides to any story! And when u point at others, u have four fingers pointing back at u!!! ALWAYS look at ourselves.....and ponder upon the erason why!

P.S.: Welcome to Sarawak, Martin and Mraie...and Sabah too! U'll love it here!!! And when are u coming, Zul? Cash? Pat LOVES Sarawak!!!
