sorry for not being here for a long time. i had a lot of work to be finished before Christmas.
anyway cikgu, i have some pictures of the flood that hit sibu recently. It is on my blog.
do you know the road leading to Farley supermarket. it has about a foot to 2 1/2 feet of water when i was going through it. near the bulatan aman was also very high. a lori sampah actually stuck there. sibu center was just a mess. water everywhere. the funny thing is even the bomba station is also flooded. i have n ly been in sibu for 3 years and this is the worst flood to date that i have seen. last year was not as bad as this.
anyway Merry Christmas everyone. |

... question... is the flooding due to an increase of population without enhancing the infrastructure such as storm drains? Would this account for the severe flooding? Just thought I would ask... _________________ Cheers,

i think it is better for the locals to answer this but i will give it a try.
the floods in sibu is mainly cause by heavy rain in the upper reaches of sarawak such as in the kapit region and also in the event of a high tide or a king tide. the excess water will flow into the river and it is carried to sibu. sibu is located near the rejang river which flows into the sea. the excess water increases the river water's height. the high tide or king tide blocks the water fro flowing into the sea thus causing sibu top to be flooded.
i cannot really say this is entirely natural cause for there are logging activities up river which causes sediments to flow into the river and causing the river to be shallow thus reducing the rivers capacity to move and hold water. |
